Descriptive Video Standards Development

Media Access Canada (MAC) has developed a consensus-based approach for the creation of a de facto standard for Descriptive Video production, in which English- and French-language Working Groups will develop a draft Best Practices Content Creation Guide for Descriptive Video. Media Access Canada (MAC)'s recent international research on media accessibility and the preliminary Best Practices Content Creation Seed Standard for Descriptive Video will provide the necessary starting point for the Working Groups to begin their discussions. The Working Groups' drafts of a Best Practices Content Creation Guide for Descriptive Video in English and in French will then be published on industry stakeholder web sites for comment and consultation with the final draft posted and used as the accepted industry standard for the production of Descriptive Video.

Media Access Canada (MAC) is currently working with the Canadian government, private sector and international accessible content stakeholders to identify the necessary funding to establish Working Groups.
